The Amber Ring

Power 7

Perhaps the most unusual thing about this infamous talisman is that the Great Spirit that created it seems uninterested in its current circumstances. No Wild Hunt has ever been called against a spellbinder for wielding it, though most such spellbinders are already on the run.

This is because the Amber Ring conceals its wearer from magical detection of any kind. Prophesies, psychomancy, clairvoyance, tarot divination... none of them can reveal any information concerning one who wears the ring.

As a result of these two features, the Amber Ring is coveted by a great number of spellbinders and Arisen beings. Their attempts to seize the talisman have proven more dangerous to several former owners than the Wild Hunts they sought to escape.

Overpower Effects

  • Non-magical forms of information around the wearer (text, signs, voices over the phone) become unintelligible.
  • Non-magical records of the wearer's existence (driver's license, employment records, family photos, etc.) seem to get lost, then reappear days or weeks later.
  • Anyone who has recently tried to scry the wearer feels a piercing "scream" in their mind... followed by a vague sense of where the ring is currently located.

Underpower Effects

  • The ring only hinders the current divination attempt (inflicts a Penalty Card on its Power Check).
  • The divination attempt yields cryptic, but accurate, information about the ring's wearer. Careful investigation may steal reveal the truth.

(GMs should call for Control Checks from a character wearing the Amber Ring any time an NPC tries to divine something about them. GMs can also call for such checks at random intervals, just to keep players on their toes.)
