Dead Bolts

Certain lesser spirits in the Americas make these trinkets for favored shamans. They appear to be unremarkable bracelets woven from coarse, natural fibers. When placed over a door knob, they reveal their extraordinary power.

Dead Bolts prevent anything from passing through the charmed door. It will not open, bullets will not penetrate it, and incorporeal beings cannot move through it. If the door is the only entrance into a room, this protection envelopes the entire room. The spell is only broken when the Dead Bolt is removed.

Overpower Effects

• Vines spring from the door and set down roots in the surrounding walls, floor, and ceiling. They persist even after the Dead Bolt is removed.
• Anything that tries to open or pass through the door is repelled by a bolt of magical lightning.
• The affected door disappears, as if it never existed. Since the Dead Bolt cannot now be removed, the door is gone forever.

Underpower Effects

• The door cannot be opened, but magic is not prevented from passing through it.
• After a few minutes, the Dead Bolt crumbles to dust; the spell ends.
