The Solemn Oath

Power 5

It must have been early on that spirits noticed the inequity of their oathbound relationship to humans. Soon thereafter, the ritual of the Solemn Oath was first created. It is also known as the Blood Oath, because the target of the spell must provide a few drops of blood.

When completed, the ritual binds the target to one promise, just as spirits are bound by theirs. They are not physically prevented from breaking their word, but doing so becomes utterly unthinkable. They simply don't believe they have a choice. Of course, they are as free as any spirit to give the wording of their oath a self-serving interpretation.

Overpower Effects

  • Target becomes obsessed with fulfilling their oath, and may develop compulsive behaviors or nervous tics.
  • Thoughts that conflict with the oath inflict terrible pain.

Underpower Effects

  • The spell only inhibits thoughts of oathbreaking, inflicting a Penalty Card on any such actions.
